Management

Paul Dank is the agency owner and practice manager. He is involved in the process of supervising, planning and executing every file, giving our clients and investigators one person to work with. Mr. Dank has supervised over 8,000 insurance claim investigations. He is a noted speaker on claims investigations and publishes The Defense Investigator, an investigation newsletter providing claims examiners and defense investigators with practical information they can use to make better decisions. When he purchased the agency, he eliminated the middle management layer and works directly with all investigators and clients.

Fran Spurgeon - Client Services

Fran Spurgeon joins our Team to manage the Client Services Department. Her role is to act as liaison between our customers and our investigative staff. It is her job to educate our clients on the services available through Sherlock, as well as to clearly communicate corporate protocols and the unique elements of each individual case to our investigators and surveillance staff. If this requires face-to-face contact or record copying, she is more than happy to arrange a personal office visit. Fran is no stranger to the insurance industry, with extensive experience in direct marketing to insurance companies and their legal representatives. Brad Erickson – Surveillance Manager

After graduating from Michigan State University with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice, Brad attended the Oakland Police Academy in Auburn Hills, MI as a self-sponsored police cadet.

After graduating from the academy in 1994, Brad became a supervisor for Comerica Bank in their security console located at their headquarters in Auburn Hills, MI. After leaving Comerica Brad worked as a surveillance investigator for R.L. Wininger for three years and then MJM Investigations for three years.

Brad joined the Sherlock Investigations team in October of 2000 as a surveillance investigator. After working in the field for two years, Brad was brought inside the office to work on a multitude of investigations and eventually became the surveillance manager.

Brad has worked as the surveillance manager for the last three years and is responsible for several surveillances and surveillance investigators each and everyday. Brad is also responsible for updating and managing the surveillance files, assigning and running the surveillances, working with the clients and managing the billing for every surveillance file. In summary, Brad has well over eleven years of experience in the surveillance field.

Thomas Maher - Investigations Manager

Thomas is a graduate of Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice (Law Enforcement) in 1993. He has worked with the Livonia Police Department for two years and even assisted in the training of police academy recruits. He was a graduate of the Oakland Police Academy in 1994 and when he entered the private sector, Tom worked as a surveillance investigator for RL Wininger for three years. After this, he freelanced a variety surveillance, security and protection assignments through out the metro Detroit area.

Tom joined Sherlock Investigations in 2003 and excelled as a Senior Field Investigator handling all non-surveillance investigations. Now, he is responsible for overseeing the investigation operations of Sherlock Investigations that include witness locates, witness statements, accident investigations, activity checks, alive and wells, and general investigations. In addition, his duties include the intake and setup of investigations, working with the clients to achieve their goals, and the assigning and managing of these investigations.

Surveillance Staff

Our surveillance staff is comprised of former law enforcement personnel, former military personnel and private investigators who have been in private practice or worked with other insurance investigative agencies. We have over 100 years of collective experience investigating insurance claims in Michigan. All of our surveillance investigators are recognized experts by the Michigan courts and all have had experience testifying successfully about their work. We are confident that few if any other insurance claims investigative agencies have the depth of experience and knowledge that Sherlock’s surveillance does.

Investigative Staff

Like our surveillance staff, our investigative crew is derived from the same backgrounds. This group in also trained and experienced in locating information, locating individuals and in the fine art of statement taking.

Due to the nature of our work, we do not display a circum vitae for our investigators on this site. Clients may obtain them by contacting our office.
